NOTARY PUBLIC
TESTING AND REQUIREMENTS
TO TAKE THE NOTARY EXAM:
The Notary Exam is now
a standardized test given twice a year by the Secretary of
State, on the first Saturday in June and December. Testing is
administered regionally and for this area has generally been in
Shreveport. You must make application to the Secretary of State
to take the test.
Applications may be
printed from
www.sos.louisiana.gov/notary
IF YOU HAVE RECENTLY PASSED THE NOTARY EXAM, submit the
following to the Clerk of Court:
-Bond or Errors and Omissions Policy in the sum of ten thousand
dollars ($10,000.00), in duplicate, along with your recording
fee payable to the Clerk of Court in the amount of $15.00.
-2 Oaths of Office
-Official signature form
-Certificate of Competency
-Check payable to the Secretary of State in the amount of $35.00
for your commission
TO RENEW YOUR NOTARY COMMISSION, submit the following to
the Clerk of Court:
-Bond or Errors and Omissions Policy in the sum of ten thousand
dollars ($10,000.00), in duplicate, along with your recording
fee payable to the Clerk of Court in the amount of $15.00
-Check payable to the
Secretary of State in the amount of $20.00 for commission
renewal
TO CHANGE YOUR PARISH, submit the following to the Clerk
of Court:
-same requirements as
those who have recently passed the notary exam
TO CHANGE YOUR NAME, submit the following to the Clerk of
Court:
-Bond or Errors and Omissions Policy in the sum of ten thousand
dollars ($10,000.00), in duplicate, along with your recording
fee payable to the Clerk of Court in the amount of $15.00.
-2 Oaths of Office
-Official Signature Form
-Name Change Affidavit
-Check payable to the Secretary of State in the amount of $35.00
for your commission
RECIPROCAL PARISHES:
A practicing Notary in Webster Parish may notarize in the
following parishes without additional bonding: Bossier, Caddo,
Bienville, Claiborne, and Desoto.
