LICENSE INFORMATION
LICENSE MAY ONLY BE
USED WITHIN THE STATE OF LOUISIANA
ONLY ONE APPLICANT NEEDS TO BE PRESENT WITH ALL REQUIRED INFO
FOR BOTH PARTIES.
OFFICE HOURS: Monday - Friday, 8:30 to 4:30. We suggest
you come in no later than 4:00 PM to allow time to complete
application.
LICENSE FEE:
$26.00 CASH ONLY. This fee includes a certified copy of your
license if requested within 60 days after the
license is returned. After 60 days the fee for a certified copy
is $6.00.
IDENTIFICATION:
A certified copy of your birth certificate is required. If you
do not have a copy available we will accept a Louisiana driver’s
license for applicants 30 years or older or you may apply for a
birth certificate waiver at the District Judge’s office.
AGE REQUIREMENT:
Parties must be 18 years of age. If either party is under 18,
both of the minor’s parents must sign a notarized affidavit of
consent. If one parent has sole custody of the minor and
produces a certified copy of the custody order, it is only
necessary for that parent to consent. If either party is under
17, the parents and minor child must appear in the District
Judge’s office to apply for authority to obtain a license.
OTHER INFORMATION
NEEDED: Social security numbers, parents’ names
(including mothers’ maiden names) and state where parents were
born, highest grade completed in school and number of this
marriage. If not a first marriage, month and year of divorce or
death of prior spouse.
WAITING PERIOD:
After the license is issued, there is a 72 hour waiting period
before the parties can be married. You may apply for a waiver of
the waiting period from the District Judge. If you are being
married by a Justice of the Peace, he may also grant a waiver.
EXPIRATION OF
LICENSE: A marriage license is valid for 30 days after
issuance. Expiration date and time is noted on your license.
WHO MAY PERFORM
CEREMONY: Ministers or Justice of the Peace.
